Welcome to Montenerodomo
The town of Montenerodomo stands on a rocky ridge between two valleys. It's an ancient mountain city, before frentana, carecina then, which became a Roman municipality with the name of Juvanum, named probably due by the healthful qualities of a source, still active, placed on the tracks, further downstream than the present town. For archaeology lovers to visit there are still visible remains of the ancient Roman city: Acropolis, Forum, theatre and basilica. From the 3rd century, however, there are the megalithic walls, still partly present, which were exploited then to protect the village (born in the 12th century), which later became a fief, subject to several families. After visiting the medieval village of Abruzzo and the ancient Roman town, you can stop to admire the Croce Palace, residence of the family of BenedettoCroce, the Abbey of Santa Maria in Palazzo, the Church of San Vito and the Church of San Martino. While, in SerraMontitti area, you can appreciate the old Pagliare, houses partly dug into the rock.
