In the wonderful setting of eastern Maiella, at the foot of the Montenerodomo village, the monumental remains of ancient Iuvanum represent one of the most important archaeological sites in the region. The remains of the original settlement – of the Samnites-Caraceni – include the sanctuary dating back to the 4th century BC, with two adjoining temples, and the small theatre with stone stage and seats. Most of the archaeological remains that can be visited date back to the Roman age: paved roads, the large central square (the forum), paved with stone slabs and surrounded by shops and public buildings, and the spas nearby. Close to the site, a modern building hosts the Archaeological Museum, which hosts a path specifically designed for visually impaired people, and the Museum of Landscape History and Transformation.
