Welcome to Lama dei Peligni
The town of Lama dei Peligni is located between the Aventino river and the slopes of the Majella massif, hosting the first wildlife area of Abruzzo chamois of Majella. The origins are ancient, in fact, there have been found remains of cave paintings in the caves of the area. Unfortunately the town went almost completely destroyed due to earthquakes but especially after the bombing of the world war II, finally freed from German occupation in 1944. In the picturesque village of Lama dei Peligni, there is the Church of St. Nicholas and Clement of the 16th century, the Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia annexed to the convent of Sant'Antonio from Padova and prestigious buildings such as Palazzo Verlengia and Palazzo of BaroniTabassi. Tourists attraction are the Caves of Cavallone, which are located at 1475 m in the heart of Majella, shared with the municipality of TarantaPeligna. Many cavers have shown interest in the caves and they have been also an inspiration to the poet D'annunzio for the writing "La figlia di Iorio". Especially in the summer months, passing through Lama dei Peligni, there are many events to participate: one of the most important is the Music Festival on August 11, the feast of Sant'Antonio on August 12 and 13.
