Welcome to Tornareccio
The town of Tornareccio, on the slopes of monte Pallano, dominates a large territory that ranges from the mountains of Vasto to the Adriatic coast. The first records of the town date back to the 9th century when it was a fief of the Abbey of Farfa, that became the fulcrum for the construction of the village, which began around 1100. There are left only two of the seven original towers of the Castle. It was built primarily to defend against attacks of the Normans. Once the feudal system was abolished, Tornareccio was badly damaged by both world wars.Currently the town is part of the National Association of Città del miele (the city of Honey). The events not to be missed are the feasts dedicated to St. Nicholas, St. Emidio and Santa Rita in may, summer feasts dedicated to San Rocco, San Giovanni Battista and the Festival of Forgiveness and the Patron Saint's day in December. Interesting to visit are the Walls Paladine within the Natural Archaeological Park of Monte Pallano whichpresents considerable flora at the slopes of Tornareccio and also the characteristic and fascinating Mosaics, spread on the walls of the houses around the historic centre, building a real "open air museum".
