Welcome to Bomba
The town of Bomba lies on the western slopes of mount Pallano, to the right of the Middle Valley of the Sangro River which here is barred by a lake-shaped dam, full of fascinating sights. The term Bomba derives from a Latin word, of onomatopoeic origin, "Bombus", i.e. "buzz", "Rumble". The village was surrounded by 3 ditches, now covered, through which the noise of waterfalls, which resembled the flight of the Bombo, blared. For sure, however, it is known that the first urban area of the town of Bomba arose during the middle ages, around 1100. Initially inhabited by Benedictine monks, the town was moved to a downstream area, where currently is. From that moment became the property of several gentlemen. In the village residents are very devout to San Mauro Abate. For this reason, just outside the village was built a Sanctuary dedicated to him in the 1950s, although the original church is from the 12th century. Further downstream, there is the artificial Bomba lake, whose dam was completed in 1962, fishing and tourism destination, is also the official field for the rowing races. To visit in the old town there is the Museum of Ethnography in which are exposed the tools that man has used over millennia to produce whatever was needed to meet their own needs and improve family conditions, and the Church of Santa Maria delPopolo, located in the highest part of the old town of Bomba.
