The church of Santa Maria del Popolo, situated in the highest part of the historical centre of Bomba, dates back to the XIV century, as evidenced by the documents, but currently has a baroque style from mid seven hundred, when it was reconstucted scratch and enriched with stucco, works of art and sacred furnishings. It has a stucture of a Greek cross extented to the side chapels and apse.
The facade is characterized by the presence of two ends of pilasters that are in the lower part of the Doric, whlie in the higher part Ionic order. On the left side of the church rises the bell tower, which is built with the cant of an ancient tower; the base is spanned by an arch with barrel vaults. Always on the left side of the building opens a portal stone, well finished and topped by a Latin inscription that recalls the date of its construction, 1742.
Within the church is in all its baroque splendor: to note the number on the sides of pilasters surmounted by gilded capitals, the frescoes depict scenes from the life of Madonna, in which the church is dedicated to, alternating with symbols of the Christian Church, as well as the barell vault of the crossing arm is broken by an elliptical dome decorated the corners.
On the back of the church is dominated by a painting of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by a rich array of stucco, putti and angels with garlands. Other paintings adorn the side alters, almost all made by the Neapolitan painter Ludovico de Majo, while the stucco around the perimeter of the church depict scenes from the Old and New Testament are of Carlo Piazzoli and Alessandro Terzani. Choir wooden carvings and reliefs around the bottom was the author in 1806 Domenico De Simone of Agnone.
This convergence of dates, lists of authors and styles of architectural and artistic work of renewal of the church, due to the initiative of a parish priest, don Bertrando Spaventa, who completed it in 1757, as remembered by a plaque on the inside, at the main entrance.
