Welcome to Pizzoferrato
The town of Pizzoferrato is situated on a rocky cliff called Pizzo. There aren’t much news about the town, but it is certain that its name changed from Pizzo to the present name when citizens built an iron gate to prevent access of bandits. The old part of the village is set on a rocky ridge, where stands the remains of the Castle, which on three sides sheer falls, while on the fourth side lies on a ridge where the first houses are located. In this village of Abruzzo there is the oldest church of the town dedicated to Madonna delGirone, heavily damaged during the World War II, today has its facade completely plastered. The village, which moved downstream, began to develop around the church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The surroundings of the town are rich in forests with oak, fir and beech, also rich in routes frequented by trekkers. For sports lovers, the town of Pizzoferrato also has an alpine ski slope and a ski track, where anyone can appreciate the nature of this town.
