On the big Cliff impending over Pizzoferrato there is the ancient Church of Santa Maria del Girone. Certainly it was the first church built in the village, but it is not known the precise dating, maybe during the eleventh century. The apse was added in the 13th century. In the nineteenth century it was partly restored, while recently has been restored and repaired for damages caused by the earthquake of 1984.The façade has horizontal crowning typical of many ancient churches of Abruzzo with an overhanging cornice and framed by stone pilasters. Simple design portal, surmounted by a window with lintel. Either the portal or the window have stone cornices. On the right of the facade there is the Bell Tower with rough-hewed stone blocks, and concluded by a small bell tower gabled by two arches and bells. The Interior has a longitudinal plan, with a single nave covered by a barrel vault with lateral lunettes; it is concluded by a semicircular apse, probably of the eighteenth century, with a half-dome. Among the sacred vestments kept in the Church, there are remnants of fifteenth-century statues of San Nicola di Bari and San Domenico, a painting of the mid-17th century, a Maiella black stone stoup with its original form. Note the frescoes that enrich the vault of the nave.
