Welcome to Fara San Martino
The town of Fara San Martino is situated at the mouth of the Valley of Santo Spirito, crossed by the Verde River, a tributary of the Aventino. Right on its banks were born worldwide famous pasta factories. The origin of this authentic village of Italy is Roman and all the territory was inhabited by the Benedictines between the 9th and 10th centuries. It was later inhabited by the Abbots of San Martino, in the picturesque Valley of Santo Spirito, nestled in the Canyons of San Martino, was built the monastery of San Martino in Valle, born in 1044, which is still possible to see the remains. Passed from hand to hand in the middle ages, was almost completely destroyed during World War II, but the oldest part of the Terra Vecchia, still preserves parts of the ancient fortified village. Very popular among trekking and climbing lovers, Fara San Martino holds the manifestation of the race "Granfondo", where many cyclists take part. The town during the summer months, hosts several events, such as the "Festival of pasta" and festivals dedicated to Sant'Emidio, Sant'Antonio and San Rocco on August 23, 24 and 25.
