Welcome to Castel Frentano

The town of Castelfrentano sits on a hill between the basins of the Feltrino and Sangro. The first town settlement dates back to Roman times, although finds of numerous tombs confirm the pre-Roman origins of the city thanks to the fact that it was a resting place along the pastors street sheep track. In the 14th century it became a fortified village, called "CastrumNovum", passed under various dominations, until when in 1864 it became officially CastelFrentano, although it is of popular used to continue to call it CastelNuovo, its old name. The town of CastelFrentano is known for producing the bocconotto, typical pastry that dates back to the years between 1700 and 1800. One of the most important summer recalls is the "festa dell’Assunta", which runs in August between the 13th, 14th and 15th, with concerts and shows that attract many tourists and locals.
