Welcome to Torricella Peligna
Placed on a high hill, located in front of the Maiella, in the midst of the Valley of the Sangro and Aventino, the town of Torricella Peligna sweeps scenically to the Adriatic Sea. The origins of the country are probably related to the transfer of a part of the population of the ancient Juvanum (where today stands Montenerodomo). There are certain information, however, in the 12th century, when, also this village of Abruzzo, became the property to several wealthy families. Torricella is the birthplace of famous people, like Vincenzo Bellini senior, Silvio D'Amico founder of the Academy of dramatic arts and EttoreTroilo, Commander of the Brigade Majella, for which this village of Abruzzo was decorated with the bronze medal for military valour. To visit there is the sanctuary of Santa Maria delRoseto in the area of Madonna delle Rose, the centre of Fallascoso, in the hamlet of Torricella, perched on a cliff, with a baronial Palace once owned by the Croce family, 18th-century St Nicholas Church and the Hermitage of San Rinaldo. For several years now, in July, many locals of Abruzzo and tourists gather for one of the most exclusive events in the town of Torricella Peligna, "Arte musica e gusto", with two white nights, music and many stands offering the specialities of the local cuisine. Sincere is also the literary Festival "the God of my father," dedicated to John Fante, whose family was actually born in Torricella, which takes place in the last days of August.
