Welcome to Archi
The town of Archi is situated on a wooded hill between the torrent Pianello and the Sangro river, faced with Altino, from which you can admire a breathtaking panorama that goes from the Maiella to the sea. In 873 there are the first official news, when the whole territory of Archi was subject to a monastic settlement, before the one of San Clemente a Casauria and then the one of San Giovanni in Venere. Then became a fortified village, as evidenced by the remains of the medieval Castle Lannutti and the walls, becoming an important bulwark, along with Casoli and Roccascalegna, in the access defensive system on the Maiella mountain and Sangro river. Currently, Archi, is expanding in the most downstream area called Piane D'archi. Walking through the streets of the small village centre, there are the churches dedicated to San Rocco and Santa Maria dell'Olmo, leading to the important archaeological excavations in the locality of FonteTasca, which discover an important bronze age settlement.
