The presence of rare silver fir groves is the most important aspect of this Reserve, located in a territory with huge environmental and landscape value. The boundary of the reserve is marked by the Ateleta-Biferno sheep-track and the reserve is completely crossed by the Turcano stream, a tributary of the river Sangro. Following the “nature path” that starts from Fonte Volpona into the Reserve, you will see century-old and imposing firs and many other tree species, as well as the colourful bloom of the undergrowth that go on from spring through summer. The Reserve and the surrounding areas host almost the whole Apennine fauna and, years ago, it started a project for the repopulation of wild ungulates like roe deer and deer, in order to reinforce their important presence on the territory.
