This is the largest parish church in Lanciano and the largest convent in Abruzzo. Built in 1430 the convent of Sant Angelo della Pace is located in the Prato della Fiera area where a small chapel dedicated to the Saint already existed. The title della pace was added in honour of Giovanni da Capestrano, the man responsible for the peace between Ortona and Lanciano following the dispute over the port of San Vito. The convent since its beginning has been: the home for 50 monks, the Provincial Studio Generalizio, a wool mill and a library. In the middle of the 13th century embellishments made were and the church was restored. The convent was suppressed in 1806 by the French government and then newly instituted in 1815 with the Bourbon restoration and then closed definitively and sold to the council for public use in 1866. The cloister was reconstructed after the last war. The façade is characterised by a portico, with five arches articulated with ionic columns. The central area is the roof and tympanum. The high bell tower on the side is crowned with a type of cement canopy within which is an illuminated cross inside the bell. The posterior view is characterised by two loggias on the side of the apse. The inside is a Latin cross shape with a semicircular apse with transept. The main nave is composed of an Ambon with three arches and seven bays with lesenes with Corinthian capitals. Between the lesenes on the second and third bay are two chapels. In the semi dome of the apse there is a mosaic. At the point between the where the two naves meet there is a dome. The church still contains the wooden statues of Saint Francis of Assisi, San Antonio di Padova and Santa Rita and behind the altar the relics of San Antonio and Saint Francis are located. In the ancient refectory of the convent there is a tempera painting with the image of Giovanni da Capestrano, made by the monk Terenzio Barbone.
