Santo Spirito Museum Complex is one of the most ancient buildings of Lanciano and its foundation dates back to 1293. Originally it was a monastery which belonged to the Great Refusal Order of Pope Celestine V. The monastery was built far away from the build-up area and its life ended brusquely in 1654. After many years of restoration works the building gained a new structure, today destined to Museum Complex, and which hosts the Archaeological Museum, two exhibition halls, a lecture hall and a conference room. The Archaeological Museum is intended to guide visitors through the ancient history of the town and of the region: starting from the V millennium BC up to the town hall of the Roman period and the subsequent phases of Byzantine and Early Middle Ages eras. The journey ends with the exhibition of refined archaic majolica vases made by Lanciano potters during the Middle Ages.
