The Francesco Paolo Tosti Archive - Abruzzo Musical Museum was inaugurated on April 9, 1994, by the renowned soprano Renata Tebaldi, primarily to make the heritage related to Francesco Paolo Tosti visible. It is the first museum dedicated to music in the region and one of the few in Italy.
The main section of the museum is dedicated to musicians and includes two permanent rooms dedicated to Francesco Paolo Tosti, as well as other rooms dedicated to Giuseppe De Luca and Giovanni Martinelli. There is also a separate section dedicated to Abruzzo, with documents related to Guido Albanese and regional musical traditions.
The documentation on Paolo Tosti is the most important acquisition of the archive, donated by his family through his great-grandson Paolo, who made the establishment of the Archive and Museum possible. This collection consists of a large amount of material that documents all stages of the renowned musician's life: from the birth documents of the Tosti-Schiani family to the early compositions during his studies at the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples, to the documentation of his time in Rome and England.
In addition to handwritten compositions of his early works and a few religious compositions, the archive contains extensive correspondence with prominent figures, autographed photographs, personal belongings, newspaper clippings collected over the years, and telegrams from the Royalty of many European courts, as well as other important personalities such as Leoncavallo, Cilea, Mascagni, De Leva, Serao, Puccini, D'Annunzio, Boito, and others. These documents testify to the admiration and respect that Tosti enjoyed during his life as a teacher and composer from Abruzzo.
