In Palombaro, the primitive Church of Santa Maria della Serra, also known as Church of the Assunta, was built in the 13th century, but afterwards fell into disrepair and in its place was built in the 16th century the current sacred building. It has recently been restored in covering and in all internal and external surfaces. It is the parish church of Palombaro, a town that derives its name from the Latin "Palumbarium", as " place of doves rearing ": it is mentioned in a document dating back to the beginning of the eleventh century. The main façade of the Church of the Assunta is divided into three vertical sections by stone pilasters. A stone cornice is supported by pilasters. Above this cornice is the tympanum, tripartite by pilasters and ended in the Centre by a segmental arch, while the two sides frame profile are concave. On the sides of the portal, which can be reached with a short staircase, there are two niches with statues of Saints; above, a rectangular window. Alongside the facade stands a Bell Tower added in the 18th century; it is divided into three levels separated by string-courses. Note double lancet window of the second level and the elegant cornice that surrounds the belfry. The Bell Tower has a flat crowing , with a spectacular frame with small arches. The Interior has a Basilica plan with a nave and two side aisles. It preserves a precious wooden statue of the Madonna with child, known as the Madonna della Libera.
