Welcome to Monteferrante
Placed on a rocky hill to the right of the Sangro, the town of Monteferrante was founded in the 15th century as a fortified village. Perched around the medieval castle of the D’ Aragona family, took part of its name from Ferrante I of D’Aragona. Other points of interest are: the Church of San Giovanni Battista Decollato located in the historical centre, dating from the 17th century, although as we see it today is the result of resets, the last one in 1927; the ruins of the Castle; the walls, from which there is only a door beside the Church. Nestled in the woods that surround the town of Monteferrante, there is the impressive church dedicated to Santa Maria del Monte. An important reminder for tourists is the August of Monteferrante, rich in events and celebrations, dedicated to Saint Anthony, to Saint John the Baptist (Patronal feast) and to San Rocco.
