Welcome to Montazzoli
The first settlements in the town of Montazzoli, develop around a Tower, built between the 9th and 12th centuries, with the function of military post, observatory and wheelbase. Even today the village retains its original structure due to the particular topography, characterized by two opposing pads: to the South the San Carlo Hill and to the North the Ripa Hill, separated by a small plain where there are the recent housing. On the Ripa hill there is the originating historic old town of the village, developed around the Castle situated on the highest point of the hill, which despite being lower than the opposite hill, offered more coverage and more shelter. To visit there are the Castle Franceschelli, the Church Santa Maria della Spogna which according to the tradition was built on that site at the behest of Madonna, when an unexpected snowfall covered the surrounding area, remained free only a small portion of land on which the faithful built the Church. Another popular destination is the small Church of Madonna del Pastore, in Lago Negro locality, renovated in the 80’s which the second sunday of August brings together the whole village to celebrate together the mountain and the chapel of “Madonna del Buon Pastore”
